ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – Under a joint venture between the two nations, the United Arab Emirates intends to inject an additional €15 billion into Greece, as announced during Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi,’s official visit to Athens on October 22. This new pledge builds upon a €4 billion plan initiated in May 2022, aiming to strengthen economic and strategic connections.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion will enhance collaboration in sectors deemed strategic and priorities for both nations’ development. The original initiative set a framework for joint investments in areas of shared interest and has already resulted in key transactions within energy and healthcare sectors. Officials highlighted that these accomplishments demonstrate the potential to transform economic opportunities into real investments, and the new funds will supplement that existing framework.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. They explored avenues to boost cooperation across energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology sectors while also reviewing regional and international issues. Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport. The visit underscores the ongoing development of bilateral relations.
Strategic forum results include €12.75 billion in new agreements
Coinciding with the visit, the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum in Athens saw the signing of agreements and commercial partnerships exceeding €12.75 billion between UAE and Greek entities. These cover areas such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. These accords are separate from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis participated in the forum along with senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi stated that both the agreements and the new investment plan reflect increasing confidence between the two economies. He emphasized that the focus now is on translating that momentum into concrete projects. Al Zeyoudi described the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, while highlighting Greece as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also took part in the forum.
Greece recognized as a strategic access point to European markets
The UAE’s decision to expand its investment in Greece underscores its confidence in Greece’s economic potential and investment climate. The country’s strategic geographical position and its role in linking European markets with regional and global ones are key factors. The expanded initiative aims to foster cooperation between investment agencies and businesses in both nations, supporting innovation and knowledge exchange. It is designed to open new avenues for cross-border investment.
This announcement is part of a broader effort by the UAE to establish long-term investment collaborations across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany across multiple sectors, and negotiations with other European countries such as Italy have also intensified. Officials noted that Greece’s initiative aims to lay the groundwork for a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
